Trump announces ‘full pardon’ for Dinesh D'Souza
President Trump said on Thursday he would pardon conservative commentator Dinesh de Souza, who was convicted in 2014 of illegal campaign contributions.
"We will be granted a full amnesty to Denis Desouza today, who has been unfairly treated by our government!" Trump is singing.
Desouza is under five years of probation for illegal campaign contributions in other names to support the candidacy of New York senator Wendy Long, who lost to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
The amnesty will represent the fifth full amnesty granted by Trump during his presidency - all without going through the formal channels of the Ministry of Justice. And continue with a politically motivated amnesty, including Arizona Sharif Sharif Joe Arbaio, a former Bush aide to the White House.
Desouza is a controversial figure who accused former President Barack Obama of adopting the "anti-colonial issue" of his Kenyan father in the cover story of Forbes Magazine when Obama was in office. Although former presidents waited until the end of their mandate for a controversial pardon, Trump pardoned many people in 16 months in office, including the former chief of staff of former Vice President Dick Cheney and a former Arizona employee Joe Arbaio.
