Kim Kardashian West joined dozens of celebrities who announced that their social media accounts were frozen in protest against the spread of "hate and misinformation".

The move is part of the "Stop Hate for Profit" campaign launched by human rights activists.

Celebrities will freeze their accounts for 24 hours on Wednesday.

I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation - created by groups to sow division and split America apart – only to take steps after people are killed. Kardashian said

She added:  "Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy.  Please join me tomorrow when I will be “freezing” my Instagram and FB account to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit. Link in bio".

Other celebrities joining the boycott campaign. Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Sacha Baron Cohen, Judd Apatow, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Jamie Foxx, Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Actor Ashton Kutcher, who tracks millions of accounts, joined the campaign, saying, "These tools were not made to spread hate and violence."

Campaign organizers accuse Facebook and Instagram of not doing enough to stop the spread of hate speech and disinformation.

The campaign focused on Facebook, which also owns the Instagram platform and WhatsApp, which last year generated nearly $ 70 billion in advertising revenue.

Thousands of major companies and organizations working in the field of civil rights are participating in the campaign.

And Facebook released in June that the company would place a warning on posts that are potentially harmful or misleading according to their news value.

The company’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said the platform would ban ads that include allegations of threatening "people of a certain race, nationality, religious affiliation, sect, sexual orientation, gender identity, or immigration status" to others.

He wrote in a statement that the 2020 elections were heading "to be hot," adding that his company "will take extra precautions to keep everyone safe and informed."

Facebook shares fell clearly after the boycott campaign, and media reported that Zuckerberg's net worth fell to $ 7.2 billion.
