VENICE, Italy - Passengers of a tourist steamer, and others in a port in Venice, lived moments of fear and panic, after a huge cruise ship crashed in a wharf and a ship, injuring five people. Sunday morning according to the Guardian.

The capacity of the vessel is 2679 passengers with a height of 54 meters and a length of 275 meters, according to MSC Cruises.

A video of the incident, after the 13-seat MSC Opera was hit by an engine malfunction, shows people on the ground escaping from the ship as the ship roams on the side of the pier and launches warning sirens before blowing on the River Riveress boat.

Luigi Brugnaro said it was no longer possible to cross cruise ships from the busy Gudica channel and demanded a new road be opened to open it immediately.

The Venice mayor said the cruise ships had to change course, and the Port Authority of Venice said it was working to resolve the incident and release the banned channel.

"From tomorrow, we need to move, as soon as possible, to solve the problem of the movement of cruise ships," said Pino Mussolino of the North Sea Maritime Adriatic Port Authority.

The safety of major ships in European cities is due to a collision last week between a cruise ship and a boat on the Danube river in Budapest, killing seven people and leaving 21 others dead.

The Reuters news agency quoted the head of the Adriatic Sea Port Authority, said five people were slightly injured in the collision.

Emergency workers said the cruise ship apparently lost control after a cable of steel tied to a Qatar boat was cut off.
