fifa announced the final list of candidates for the World Player of the Year award.

Egypt's Mohamed Salah, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Croatia's Luka Modric will compete for FIFA's player of the year.

The winner will be announced on September 24 in London during the FIFA annual awards ceremony.

FIFA's final list has eliminated Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, who has won the gold ball five times.

The final nominations for this year's best player were Norwegian players Ada Heberg, Olympique Lyon, German team mate Jennifer Marijuana, Brazilian striker and US midfielder Orlando Pride.

Ronaldo, who won the 2016 and 2017 titles, won the Champions League for the fifth time with Real Madrid in May before joining Juventus for 99.2 million pounds.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric also won the 2018 World Player of the Year award after reaching the final against Croatia.

Salah scored 44 goals in Liverpool last season and helped the English club reach the final in the Champions League before losing to Real Madrid.

Last week, Modric defeated Ronaldo and Mo Salah and won the European Player of the Year award this year

The list also ruled out England striker Harry Kane, who won the World Cup.
