Hippo kills Chinese tourist in Kenya
Harsh hippos kill an estimated 500 people every year in Africa. |
A Chinese tourist died after he was bitten by a hippo in the chest he was trying to photograph at a zoo in Kenya.
Zhang Ming, 66, was watching the animal at a resort on Lake Nevasha northwest of Nairobi.
Another tourist was injured in the same attack. Six people were killed this year by Kenya's hippos.
Witnesses said the tourists approached the animal many times and rushed to the hospital and bleeding profusely but later died.
The second tourist was Wu Ping Ti, who was treated with minor bruises at Naivasha Hospital.

The head of the Lake Naivasha Boat Owners Association said the rising water level has reduced hippopotamus living areas, forced them to access hotel and farmland land, and increased contact with humans, according to the Kenyan newspaper "Star"
