CHICAGO (CBS) — A two-year-old boy is dead, and an 18-year-old man is injured after a shooting in the Hermosa neighborhood Saturday night.

Police said the two were standing near an alley in the 2200 block of North Kilbourn Avenue around 10:15 p.m. when someone fired shots, striking the victims. Police said shots were fired during a "physical altercation between two females" in the alley.

The 2-year-old, a Hispanic male, was taken the Stroger Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the neck. The child was later pronounced dead. The teen, a Hispanic male, was taken the Illinois Masonic Hospital where he was stabilized. He was shot in the left leg.

The 18-year-old man and 2-year-old toddler were standing at the mouth of an alley in the 2200 block of North Kilbourn when a hail of bullets emerged from the street’s end, police said.

Two females had been fighting inside the alley between Kilbourn and Kenneth Avenues when the shots rang out toward their direction.

The 18-year-old was shot in his left leg and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Yellow police tape zigzagged across the alley early Sunday as police secured the crime scene. No one was in custody, and Area North detectives were investigating.
