The Government of Pakistan has donated a gold-plated submachine gun to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to media reports.

According to the international news agency, the Pakistani Senate has called on the Saudi crown prince at the Prime Minister's house, where he has been given a photograph by Senate President Sadiq Sanjrani and a gold-plated machine gun.

Heckler & Koch MP5 is a machine gun developed by German engineers, and this modified weapon has inscriptions engraved on its gold-plated components, According to CNN reported.

Offering a gift weapon to Saudi crown prince is likely to be surprising as it raises much controversy over his involvement in the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was brutally assassinated at his consulate in Istanbul in October last year, CNN said.

The Crown prince travelled to Pakistan, India and China in an effort to strengthen relations and improve the image of the Kingdom after a year of unrest, the report said.

In a similar gesture from the cash-rich kingdom in January January, Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, also governor of the Emirate of Tabuk, presented a gift from the "Kalashnikov Gold cannon" and bullets to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The Pakistani Prime Minister thanked the Saudi leader for the Russian gold-plated rifle.

The Saudi crown prince's visit to Islamabad came amid mounting tensions between India and Pakistan following one of the worst terrorist attacks in which 40 special forces soldiers were killed. The attack was carried out by Muhammad's army stationed in Pakistan.

The US-led international community has urged Pakistan to prevent safe havens for terrorist groups operating in its territory and bring the perpetrators of the Pulwama attack to justice.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a series of investment agreements worth 20 billion US dollars, which will provide relief to Pakistan's financially distressed economy.
