Mom discovers suicide instructions in a popular video game on YouTube and YouTube for kids

A video that promotes self-harming tips - spliced between clips from a popular video game - has appeared at least twice on YouTube and YouTube Kids since July, according to a pediatrician and mother who discovered the video.

The suicide instructions are sandwiched between clips from the famous Nintendo game "Splatoon"so that it looks like part of the game.

The video shows a man speaking in front of a green screen, urging children to hurt themselves, and say: "Remember the children sided with the right side to reach the desired results" then do a fake movement to cut the arm.

The man who appears in the video is the youtuber "FilthyFrank", who has more than 6.2 million subscribers on his channel and who defines himself in his channel as "the embodiment of everything a person should not be."

There is no evidence that Frank, whose real name is George Miller, was the one who uploaded the video on YouTube and declined to comment on the "CBS News" Report, which reported the story.

Dr. Free Hess, a mother, found the video last week and posted it on her blog to warn parents to watch what their children saw on YouTube.

Hess noted the high rate of suicide among children, which led her to review the content on YouTube, and was shocked by the malicious ways in which the introduction of passages urging children to hurt themselves.

Not only are these videos available on the regular YouTube channel, Hess has found some of the video clips embedded in the video games on YouTube Kids.

YouTube Kids should be a convenient source for children under eight years old, but it seems that trolls have found ways to defraud YouTube's actions and display malicious content on this channel.

YouTube has deleted the videos after being notified, and a YouTube spokesman told CBS News on Friday that the site is working hard "to ensure YouTube is not used to promote dangerous behavior".
