Gwyneth Paltrow: Brad Pitt threatened to kill Weinstein over alleged assault
Gwyneth Paltrow shared new details about the night that her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt confronted Harvey Weinstein for sexually harassing her during an interview on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show.
The actress said that the pair were at the opening night of Hamlet on Broadway in 1995 when Pitt saw Weinstein, and sprang into action.
Paltrow said that Pitt threw Weinstein against a wall and said: 'If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I'll kill you.'
She also noted that Pitt is 'the best' for doing that for her when she did not have fame or power.
Paltrow first shared her story with The New York Times last year, becoming one of the first actresses to go public with her allegation.
She revealed at that time Pitt had confronted Weinstein, but did not share any further detail.
Photos from the night of the incident show the two keeping a low profile as they leave the theater with publicist Simon Halls in tow.
Last year, Paltrow revealed that Weinstein tried to massage her and invited her into the bedroom during a business meeting at his hotel suite when she was 22-years-old. It was later reported that Pitt, who she was dating at the time, confronted the producer and said he’d give him a “Missouri whooping” if he tried anything again. What hasn’t been revealed until now, however, is that the movie star actually threatened to kill Weinstein.
During her interview on Stern’s radio show Wednesday, Paltrow described in detail her uncomfortable interaction with Weinstein, saying she was “shaken by the whole thing” and told Pitt “right away” about what had transpired. Reports from last year had said the actor confronted the mogul at a Hollywood party, but Paltrow told Stern a different version of events.
“We were at the opening of Hamlet on Broadway, and Harvey was there,” she explained. The actress then described Pitt’s encounter with Weinstein “like the equivalent of throwing him against the wall, energetically.” She added, “It was so fantastic because what he did was, he leveraged his fame and power to protect me at at time when I didn’t have fame or power yet.”
Paltrow continued, “[Brad’s] the best. He came back and told me exactly what he said. He said, ‘If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.'” Later in the interview, the actress explained her trepidation to talk to The New York Times about her experience with Weinstein prior to stories of his sexual misconduct going public. “Looking back at it now, it’s completely different,” she noted. “The landscape has completely changed. So now it seems like a no-brainer, but at the time, the floodgates hadn’t opened.”
Also during the interview, Paltrow opened up about her engagement to Brad Falchuk, their star-studded engagement party, upcoming wedding plans and whether or not they plan to have children. The actress also discussed her many famous friends, including Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz. Paltrow also talked about smoking pot on occasion, her lifestyle brand Goop and successfully co-parenting her kids with ex-husband Chris Martin.
